GIBS Shines the Spotlight on Exceptional Students at the Annual Student of the Year (SOTY) Event
GIBS (Global Institute of Business Studies) takes great pride in hosting its Student of the Year (SOTY) event each year, which recognizes outstanding students both academically and in terms of contributions made to their college or community. Past winners of this accolade are Ms. Aluri Supriya (2022-22), Mr. Sanjay Reddy Doddavula (2021-22), Ms. Stuti Bahri (2018)-20, Anmol Chogani (2017)-19 & Sai Sankar Valasala 2016-18 and Ms Bharti Kushwaha 2015-17).
Student of the Year events are an annual celebration at GIBS that recognizes and rewards exceptional students’ hard work and dedication. Awards such as J. P. Goyal Memorial Award, Shakuntala Devi Award, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Award and Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Award honor exceptional achievements across categories like academic performance, talent display and research and publication by outstanding students.

From Humble Beginnings to Global Philanthropy: The Inspiring Journey of Kamlesh Patel
Kamlesh Patel is an inspiring physically handicapped dancer whose dedication and passion for dance have inspired many. Born and raised in Baroda, India – at five he fell ill due to receiving the wrong injection which caused nerve damage that paralyzed both legs – it serves as an inspiration. Despite facing challenges and discrimination from others, Kamlesh remained determined to pursue his passion for dance.
Kamlesh completed his graduation in commerce but was always interested in dance. He prayed to Lord Ganesha for a way to dance without his feet and was miraculously able to put both his legs around his neck and balance himself on his hands. This was the beginning of his dance career.
He joined dance classes and impressed his teacher with his movements. Soon after, he started getting offers from event management companies for performances in small towns and big cities. His parents also started supporting his passion for dance.
Kamlesh’s big break came when he auditioned for Zee TV’s Dance India Dance show and was selected despite dancing on his hands instead of his feet. Though he was ultimately eliminated early, Mithun Chakraborty gave him a standing ovation and salute for his performance.
Kamlesh has performed over 1,000 performances both within India and overseas, appearing on shows such as Shabhash India, Boogie Woogie, and The Great Indian Laughter Challenge. He continues to inspire others with his passion for dance and his message that mental strength and passion can overcome physical limitations.
