What is the XAT Exam Syllabus and Exam Pattern?
The fact that XLRI does not establish an official XAT 2023 syllabus gives the conducting body the freedom to determine the XAT paper. In accordance with the XAT curriculum, Verbal, and Logical Ability, Decision Making and Analytical Reasoning, Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation, General Knowledge, and Essay Description are the parts from which XAT questions will be drawn. On January 8, XLRI Jamshedpur will administer the XAT 2023 online.
The Syllabus for the XAT Exam
The essential components used to calculate your percentile and merit place according to the XAT curriculum for 2023 are: Verbal Ability, Reading Comprehension, Logical Reasoning, Decision Making, Quantitative Aptitude, and Data Interpretation. The remaining parts on General Knowledge (GK) and Essay Writing do not have a specified XAT curriculum for 2023, but they can contribute to percentile calculation. The XAT curriculum encompasses all the aforementioned exam sections’ most important themes.
PART 1
Section 1: Logical Reasoning, Verbal Ability, and Reading Comprehension
According to the updated curriculum for the VARC & LR parts of the XAT, this section has 26 multiple-choice questions. The XAT full syllabus 2023 for VARC & LR includes the following topics:
Verbal ability: Questions based on the following topics: English Vocabulary-based questions -Fill in the blanks with the right words; find synonyms and antonyms; and use vocabulary phrases in the right context. Incoherent Paragraphs; Correction of Sentence Mistakes and Proper Word Usage; Phrase Ending; Conclusion of Paragraph
Reading Comprehension: Reading comprehension is demonstrated by a large proportion of VARC and LR test takers. RC passages are based on things like literature, social and economic issues, science and culture, history, and fiction, to name a few. In the XAT exam syllabus, there is no precise definition of RC subjects. The XAT test may include an RC section on any topic imaginable. The two types of RC passages are moderate and brief. All questions are multiple choice. Questions based on the facts in the RC text, with definitions of the terminology and phrases used in the passage. True or false claims in the context of the paragraph; the author’s opinion on the different issues brought up in the RC section; making an inference from the passage; the theme of the RC section; and the purpose of the RC section.
Logical Reasoning (LR): LR questions account for a relatively small proportion of the XAT curriculum. In general, the XAT test consists of a few questions based on critical reasoning and a few questions based on LR. All questions are of the MCQ kind. LR questions are based on the following XAT topics: analogy, clocks, calendars, facts, inference, judgment, binary logic, seating arrangement, blood connections, logical sequence, assumption, premise, and conclusion. The XLRI entrance test’s syllabus says that logical reasoning questions can be single or in groups.
Section 2: Decision-Making
Decision-making is a candidate’s problem-solving or case-solving competence. The Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) is a wide-ranging test that looks at these skills in the following areas: grouping and conditional testing; data arrangement; complex arrangement; making choices in a certain context; and case studies. There can be 21 questions in this section.
Section 3: Data Interpretation and Quantitative Ability
The XAT full syllabus for the Quant and DI sections in 2022 is quite comprehensive. In the revised XAT test schedule, QA and DI are the third and final components responsible for determining percentiles. The XAT Quantitative section of the 2023 test has a full curriculum that covers everything you might or might not expect in math. The Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation part of the XAT 2023 will have 28 multiple-choice questions. Principal subjects include:
Quantitative Skills: The curriculum covers topics like Arithmetic, Algebra, Modern Math, Geometry, Mensuration, and Trigonometry, among others, that have to do with numbers.
Data Interpretation: The majority of data interpretation questions on the XAT exam are grouped into sets. Occasionally, separate questions are posed. There are just multiple-choice questions. Four DI questions are included in the XAT exam. Questions on data interpretation and analysis based on text, tables, graphs (line, area), charts (column, bar, pie), and venn diagrams are posed. Tables, charts, or graphs might be used to display data. At this stage, applicants’ data interpretation and question-answering abilities are evaluated.
PART 2
Part 2 of the XAT test, which includes the General Knowledge and Essay Writing portions, is allotted a total of 35 minutes. During this time period, you must complete both portions.
General Knowledge: The General Knowledge (GK) portion is included in the XAT’s second section’s curriculum. This section’s score is not included for calculating percentiles on the XAT. Questions may be based on both current and traditional GK. As a few of the GK questions on the XAT might be challenging, regular and in-depth reading of general knowledge is more beneficial. The new format for the XAT test says that there will be 25 multiple-choice questions on the XAT in 2023. In this part of the XAT, questions are based on a wide range of topics, such as economics, finance, and national and international news.
Essay Writing Test: This XAT’s section has a descriptive examination as an essay writing question. This examination was eliminated in 2019, but reinstated in 2022. The XAT essay is a test of an applicant’s writing abilities. The test needs a cohesive and logical essay on the assigned topic. Based on how the XAT has been used in the past, a well-written essay on a modern or abstract topic is required. Examinees are required to prepare an essay on a single topic. However, they may have the option to pick between two themes, or they may have no choice. The person taking the test is expected to write a good piece after giving it some thought. Essay in XAT plays an essential part in the Personal Interview stage, as questions can be based on the content of the XAT Essay.
